Puzzle games have always been perfect for phones and mobile devices and these kind of apps seem to be developed every day. Lots of them are really bad of course, or are simply rehashes of old classics.
So when something fresh and different comes along I tend to get a little worked up, which is what happened when I started playing Znax. I don't know where the name came from, but, quite frankly, I don't care because this game was so engrossing that I didn't have time to think about that.
The object of this one is to create squares by choosing four blocks of the same colour to make the corners. Once a square is made, all the blocks inside the square are gobbled up and you get loads of juicy points as a reward.
It's a little tricky to figure out how the whole thing works at first but after a couple of games you'll be glued to your PPC screen trying to beat your previous score. The games are all timed so you only have about 200 seconds to rack up as many squares as you can.
Graphically the game is pretty good, with cute coloured squares and fun animations. The only negative thing I could say about Znax is that it lacks options. There's only one game mode (timed) and there's no option for creating player names, so it's hard to work out whose scores are whose on the leaderboard.
Nevertheless, if you're looking for an addictive puzzler for your bus journeys, Znax will give you square eyes for a long time.
